Habemus Medicum - We Have a New Doctor

The new Doctor - the Twelfth Doctor - for Doctor Who will be Peter Capaldi, a Scottish Oscar-winner who's most famous for playing Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It. I haven't seen Thick, but that character seems to be a famous asshole.

So here are my thoughts:

1. Thank God they've cast a Doctor who's old enough to shave. No disrespect to Matt Smith...

2. This is an actor whose physiognomy looks better suited to the Master than the Doctor. Interesting!

3. Is it just me, or does he look like he could be David Tennant's dad? Maybe it's a pale Scottish thing?

2 comments:

  1. To stay within genre television (and the Who-niverse), he played the most interesting character in Torchwood: Children of Earth. The character's actions didn't always make total logical sense but Capaldi completely sold that they made emotional sense for that character.

  2. Good news!

And an interesting side note...like Tennant, Capaldi is a Glaswegian. And *unlike* Matt Smith, Capaldi is a Whovian from way back (say, age 15) and clearly understands the Doctor's requirements of fan service. Check out his BBC One interview on YouTube.
